Getting started

To start, we are doing research into successful horror film trailers, to understand and deconstruct conventions running through horror trailers. We think that in order for us to create a teaser trailer that is professional, interesting and scary, we need to research what makes a trailer successful; looking at the narrative, mise-en-scene, lighting, sound and camera shots. Our starting point will be researching storylines that audiences find scary, to come up with our own unique plot.
In this lesson we have watched many horror trailers using YouTube. Initially, we are thinking about creating a pyschological horror film, so watched trailers for films like; The Shining, One Missed Call and The Strangers.
We are also doing research into types of film trailers and horror sub genres to build up our knowledge before we start to plan our own teaser trailer in more depth. To carry this on, we will look at three trailers in more detail, and highlight their key features, that we think work well, and area's we would develop/improve upon in our own trailer.

We also found a design for our blog and decided on a conventional horror colour scheme of red and black, and the white keeps it looking simple and professional.
