We Can Do It!

Our session today has been a step back from the production of our trailer, to support our idea with more research from horror trailers. We realised that our discussions that took place before during the research stages were not in depth enough to secure a strong narrative and plot line for our trailer. We started from scratch and made a list of all the elements we definitely did and didn't want in our trailer; we also made a list of reoccurring themes and looked at commonly used camera angles, editing, sound and mise-en-scene found in horror teaser trailers. We believe this was very helpful and now have a clearer idea of what kind of horror we want to make, and also have a good idea of what scenes we want to film to create a scary impact on the audience.

When we begin filming, I think that the footage we record will help us get an idea for how it will look and give us ideas and inspiration for what could come next. We will also be able to discuss as a group weaknesses and strengths found in our filming, and use these to make filming our trailer more successful in the future. As we play back our scenes we will be able to review them, and envisage how our trailer could be.

We have thought up some scenes, which are typical of the horror genre and carry certain conventions we want to include in our trailer. Some of our ideas were:
* Attic - Which is Dark, Closed, and could house anything the imagine can think of, it is something 99% of the audience have so it really can be used to play on the viewers mind as that could be led to think that ANYTHING could be there.
* Child - ghost, missing, possessed, Children portrait the thought of innocence and purity, so any kind of backlash that the usual perpective is something that is creepy or scary.
* Hanging out the washing(daily chores) hand grabs through the sheet. Just the usual mondane everyday part of life that is meant to go according to plan. so something to happen can be used to make the audience jump.
* Fridge - magnets, mystery meat substance, heart. some kind of body part / organic material makes the audience feel squeemish, but requires a really good product or runs the risk of looking cheap, tacky and completely ruins the mood.
* Dragging - character screaming and crying being dragged backwards into darkness, gives the thought of weakness and vulnerability as you cannot fight off your attacker, so you are at the will of his/her way.
* Crying - sounds and extreme close up
* Person in the background - scary figure, gives the audience the "chills" an unknown person/entity behind people always puts people on the edge.
* Possession - comepletely at the will of the possessor, people do not like the idea of being controlled.
* Distortion
* Loud noises / sudden bang - very effective at giving the suprised effect, making people "jump" and puts them out of their comfort zone.
* Knife - weapon scene, the villain.
* Point of view shots -victim and attacker
* Shadows
* Fast editing
* Blurred lines
* Faced paced, fade through black
